On Saturday Misty and I went to Salt Lake to the Angelman Walk.  Angelman Syndrome is a rare disease that affects each person differently.  That's about all I know about it.  The day started out VERY rainy!! We got to the park and we thought it would end up getting cancelled but about the time the walk was about to begin it stopped raining.  We just stayed at our table and people came to talk to us and play with the dogs. We were with our friends, Brady and Marilyn and their dog Wiita, who is in training to become a service dog.  As the day went on it got warmer and warmer.  This is a picture of Misty and Wiita trying to stay out of the rain.  Yes they are laying on a blanket instead of the grass, in case you haven't noticed I spoil Misty LOTS!

They love going anywhere that they will get lots of attention.  After we were done in Salt Lake we went home to rest for awhile and then we went to the movie "The Host" with a friend of mine I hadn't seen for awhile.  Misty is very good in movies as long as I bring a blanket to lay on.  She doesn't like to lay down on hard floors.  I wouldn't either.  =)

Misty

Misty and I kept pretty busy this week.  On Wednesday my nephew got his mission call and he is going to Wellington, New Zealand.  I was there when he opened his call and it was great to see how happy he is.  He leaves August 29th.

Wednesday night I went to the Bon Jovi concert so Misty had a sleep over at a friends house.  Their names are Scott and Wendy and their daughter Brianne.  They have applied for a service dog for Brianne.  They have had their personal interview in Oceanside and are just waiting for their letter from CCI saying they are on the waiting list for team training.  It was a good experience for them to have Misty for a night to see what it's like to have a service dog.  They fell in love with Misty (how could you not!).  Although they forgot about their cat food and Misty got a few bites and so Friday and Saturday she didn't feel very good but she got over it.

On Thursday night we went to a CCI fund raiser in Ogden.  Misty got LOTS of attention from a bunch of people and I got a free dinner. =)  When we got home that night we were both tired!!!!!

Today we went with Lily and Ned to Brigham to visit the mentally disabled adults again.  It's a great experience for all of us.  They just love the dogs!!  This picture is of Ned as he tries to get in the front seat because Misty is trying to take up all the room again!

This is Misty getting a belly rub.  She LOVES belly rubs!

Misty was getting tired toward the end of the visit and one of the girls thought she needed a blanket.  Misty actually kept in on her for a few minutes.  Usually if I try and put a blanket on her she shakes it off.

DIfferent things

So it's been a few weeks since my last post and we had a few things going on but I never made time to update my blog so this post will have lots of different things.

We made another visit to Brigham City to go see mentally disabled adults.  The dogs love to go there because they get lots of attention and the people love the dogs!! This is Misty getting a belly rub from a couple of the people.

When Lily opened the back of her car to get my wheelchair out we found Ned trying to escape out the back.  She is hard to see but Misty is looking out the back.  I think Ned was trying to get away from Misty because Misty has a problem with sharing the back seat.  Ned usually ends up with a small part of the seat while Misty sprawls out as far as she can.

This morning we went to Weber State for their first Wounded Warrior 8k run.  We had our own booth and we spent a few hours talking to people about the dogs.  Misty enjoys getting attention from a bunch of people and spending time with her doggie friends.

Misty waiting for someone to come and pet her.

Witta likes to lay on her blanket while she waits for some attention.

Lana got so tired by the end of it she didn't care where she was laying down.

Ned is now taller than Misty!  I think he is going to graduate to be a service dog.  He's almost as perfect as Misty. =)  I tell him the lap command (which means he puts his front paws across my lap)

and just stays there.  He will cuddle with you anytime you want.  Misty does the lap command but she gets down after a couple of minutes.

Outreach activity and doggie party

Wednesday was my day off but we sure kept busy all day.  First we met Lily and Ned and went to Futura Industries for an outreach activity.  They make medical supplies and we were on the floor with the machines.  That is why I am wearing goggles in these pictures.  It got pretty loud sometimes but the dogs did great! Misty didn't even react to any noises but she's pretty use to noises.  At my work we have cart being pushed around all of the time and some of them really need some oil on the wheels!
We had a lot of people interested in the dogs and a few that might even become puppy raisers.

This is Ned.  He is the youngest puppy in training in the Ogden area right now.  He is 5 months old.
After we spent a couple of hours there Lily and I went to her house to pick up her other dog Cabo so she could take her dogs to get a bath.  This picture was taken in her car.  Ned was so tired by the time we left! He loves to put his head on Lily's shoulder while she is driving.
After that we went to my mom's house for awhile to let Misty play in her yard.  Misty is loving the snow more now that's it's not so icy.  Then we headed to a doggie party.  It was time to say goodbye to another dog as he leaves for college in Oceanside.  The dogs have a great time playing with each other. Misty even got to see her friend Tadaki.  He lives in Salt Lake with Kelly so we don't get to see them much.

I think Misty is the one that is by herself but honestly I can't tell for sure. =)

Playing in the snow at work

We have had a TON of snow the past couple of weeks.  It got so high that Misty was having a hard time playing in it.  Yesterday at work she finally had a great time in the snow playing with her friend Ned.

Misty LOVES the snow and I do not but it is fun to watch Misty have fun in the snow.  For those of you who have much warmer weather right now please enjoy it for me! =)

Christmas 2012

During December Misty and I went to a few CCI fundraisers at Barnes and Nobles.  Misty loves this because she gets LOTS of attention all night.  She just doesn't like it when I try to put a santa hat on her or reindeer ears on her.   We were able to raise lots of money for CCI so I think it was worth it.

This year for Christmas my family got together the Sunday before Christmas and ate dinner and played Bingo.  Misty loves it when my nieces and nephews come over!  She always tries to follow one of them around all night.  She got lots of gifts, which is no surprise.  My brother and his family gave her a new bed to keep at my mom's house and a big blanket that has mine and her names on it.  Misty loves to lay on either of them!  She also got lots of toys from me. =)  Christmas day we just stayed at my mom's house and Misty played in the snow every chance she got.  I have never seen a dog eat so much snow!! She puts her whole face down in the snow and when she comes up for air her whole face is covered in snow! For New Year's Eve we weren't much fun.  Misty went to bed at her usual time, 8:30 and I only  made it until 9:30.  I woke to fireworks at midnight.  Misty just moaned and rolled over and went back to sleep......we are such party animals!!!

This is Misty surrounded by all her Christmas gifts.   HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Festival of Trees 2012

This year me and a friend of mine, Lindsey decided to decorate a tree for Festival of Trees.  You decorate a tree and then the trees are put on sale and people bid on them to buy.  The money goes to Primary Children's Medical Center.  We decided to do a tree about CCI.  We started a few months ago getting decorations and making decorations for the tree.  It was a lot of work but totally worth it!!  Today was decorating day.  Five of us spent a few hours getting the tree ready.  We had a lot of fun!  Tomorrow night someone will be able to buy the tree and then the trees will be on display for the public to see for about 3 days.

Here is a close up of the tree.  A friend of Lindsey's took pictures of the dogs and we cut them to fit in glass bulbs.  We also took scrabble piece's and made words that have to do with dogs.  A lady made 4 long leashes that we wrapped around the tree.  There are CCI dogs all through the tree.  Then we sprayed dog biscuits so they looked shiny and so they wouldn't go bad.  There are also blue and brown tennis balls that say "dog is good".

Our friend Melanie made the tree skirt and Lindsey wrapped empty boxes to put around the tree.

Instead of an angel on top of the tree we have a dog on top of the tree.  Lindsey's husband made the dog house.  There is also a black dog on the other side sticking out of the house.  This was a lot of fun to do and hopefully I can do it again next year.
